Softball Recap: St. Joseph Extends Winning Streak to Six

St. Joseph had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They came out on top against the Arroyo Grande Eagles by a score of 5-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 back in March.

Taylor Mediano made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Mediano wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shai Valadez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Jaclyn Acosta also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

St. Joseph pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Arroyo Grande, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, St. Joseph and Arroyo Grande will both be playing Mission College Prep the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Knights will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
