Basketball Recap: Hubbard Jaguars vs. Mount Calm
If Hubbard was feeling good fresh off their 56-16 takedown of Trinidad on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Jaguars had to suffer through a 71-40 loss at the hands of Mount Calm. The Jaguars lost against Mount Calm in their previous head to head back in November of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 59-53 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Hubbard saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gage Serna posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Brilynne Johnson, who had eight points.
Trey Walker produced another solid effort shooting 56% from the field on his way to 22 points and four steals for Mount Calm. Walker has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Morales, who put up seven points along with nine assists and eight steals.
Hubbard has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Mount Calm, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Looking ahead, Hubbard will host Avalon at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Calm, they will square off against Meridian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
