Preview: Malakoff Tigers vs. Franklin Lions
The Malakoff Tigers will take on the Franklin Lions at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Malakoff sitting on 15 straight victories and Franklin on seven.
Malakoff had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 38-31 win over Brock on Thursday. Given Malakoff's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Brock is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mike Jones, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 96 yards and a touchdown. Jones was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Meanwhile, Franklin put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Edna, posting a 52-14 victory on the road.
Malakoff pushed their record up to 15-0 with that victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38.33 points. As for Franklin, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
