Baseball Recap: Wagner Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Tivy, Wagner was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Veterans Memorial Patriots. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Mark Riojas was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Olveda, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Wagner lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.

Wagner's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 3-17-2. As for Veterans Memorial, they dropped their record down to 8-15 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Wagner will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Patriots: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
