Basketball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

Wayne lost against Wendover back in February of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Wayne Badgers took a 57-43 bruising from the Wendover Wildcats. The Badgers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Wayne lost, don't look at Brayden Lee. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Lee is becoming a predictor of Wayne's success: when he posts at least ten rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Hunter Robins, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wayne was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Raul Valle continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wendover, putting up 28 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Valle a new career-high in points. Kevin Gonzalez was another key player, posting 15 points and five rebounds.

Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Wendover, they moved to 2-5 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Panguitch the next time they take the court. Wayne will head out to face Panguitch at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Wendover will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
