Baseball Recap: Richland Comes Up Short

Richland had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-11 to make it five. They lost 16-6 to the Somerset Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in March.

Maddox Vojtko made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. He has become a key player for Richland: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Caden Robertson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

As for Somerset, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-2. Considering they have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Somerset's side, Garrett Reese looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Reese has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cole Lucas was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Callen Miller, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richland will venture away from home to challenge Huntingdon at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Somerset, they will head out on the road to square off against Chestnut Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
