Softball Game Preview: Salem Sundevils vs. Princess Anne Cavaliers

The Salem Sundevils will square off against the Princess Anne Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Princess Anne took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Salem, who comes in off a win.

Salem was handed a 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Nansemond River 5-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Sundevils as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Lauren Burchuk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Salem let Sophia O'Connor and Emma Check run wild. O'Connor went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Check went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Madison Twiford, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Salem hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Landstown.

Princess Anne saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was L Medeiros, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Medeiros has hit this season.

Salem's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Princess Anne, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Salem was able to grind out a solid win over Princess Anne in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. Will the Sundevils repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
