Baseball Recap: Coxsackie-Athens Wins Going Away Against Johnstown

Coxsackie-Athens barely beat Johnstown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Riverhawks blew past the Sir Bills 8-1 on Tuesday. The Riverhawks haven't had any issues with the Sir Bills recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Alex Slater made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Slater was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Logan Weinstein and CJ VanAlphen did most of the damage at the plate: Weinstein scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while VanAlphen scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jackson Purdy, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Coxsackie-Athens' victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coxsackie-Athens will face off against Watervliet at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Riverhawks' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Johnstown, they are taking a road trip to face off against Amsterdam at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
