Baseball Recap: Hargrave Victorious

Hargrave won against Tarkington last Tuesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Hargrave didn't even let Tarkington on the board, marking Hargrave's second-straight 8-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won six in a row.

Braydon Wisener was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Avry Cordell was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Chance Fields, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Hargrave hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Hargrave's record is now 14-6-2. As for Tarkington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-12-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hargrave is set to challenge their familiar foe Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hargrave 3.5, Liberty 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Tarkington will take on rival Hardin-Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
