Softball Game Preview: Alleghany Cougars vs. Patrick County Cougars

Alleghany will head out to square off against Patrick County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Alleghany will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Alleghany barely beat Radford the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 17-1 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Patrick County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Floyd County 7-6. The victory was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on three straight.

Journey Moore spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Lilly Hazelwood was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Lawless, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Alleghany pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Patrick County, their record now sits at 13-3.

Alleghany suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Patrick County when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can Alleghany avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
