Soccer Game Preview: Cathedral Catholic vs. San Diego

The Cathedral Catholic Dons will square off against the San Diego Cavers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Cathedral Catholic's offense. They fell 2-0 to St. Augustine on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 522nd, while the Saints are ranked 44th).

Meanwhile, San Diego kept a clean sheet against Point Loma on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Pointers out 1-0. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Cavers were the better team in the second half.

San Diego has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those seven matchups. As for Cathedral Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Cathedral Catholic beat San Diego by a goal when the teams last played back in May of 2021, winning 3-2. Will Cathedral Catholic repeat their success, or does San Diego have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
