Softball Preview: Woonsocket Villa Novans vs. Scituate Spartans
The Woonsocket Villa Novans will head out on the road to challenge the Scituate Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Woonsocket is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Woonsocket is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Johnston, who was ranked 11th in their home state at the time (Woonsocket was ranked 25th). Woonsocket lost 7-1 to Johnston on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Scituate scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They put the hurt on Mt. Hope with a sharp 21-7 victory. The win was some much needed relief for Scituate as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Isabella Defusco made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Defusco was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Scituate got a massive performance out of Haley Nickerson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Abigail Chatelle was another key contributor, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a double.
Woonsocket's loss dropped their record down to 4-6-1. As for Scituate, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
