Softball Recap: Hoover Tornados vs. Pasadena Bulldogs
The matchup between Hoover and Pasadena on Thursday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Hoover Tornados won by a run and slipped past the Pasadena Bulldogs 12-11. The win was just what Hoover needed coming off of an 11-1 defeat in their prior game.
Evelyn Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over nine innings while giving up six earned (and five unearned) runs off 12 hits. Ortiz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Ortiz was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Hoover let Hannah Parker and Paola Cano loose on the outfield. Parker scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Cano scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Arijana Matijasevic, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Hoover's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Pasadena, they haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
Hoover will head out on the road to face off against Glendale at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Hoover is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Pasadena, they will face off against Harvard-Westlake at 11:00 a.m. in their first game on Saturday.
