Volleyball Game Preview: Missisquoi Valley Thunderbirds vs. Colchester Lakers

Missisquoi Valley hasn't had much luck against Colchester recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to take on the Lakers at 6:00 p.m. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Missisquoi Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Montpelier, who was ranked 17th at the time (Missisquoi Valley was ranked 19th). The Thunderbirds lost 3-0 to the Solons on Friday.

Missisquoi Valley was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The final score came out to 25-8, 26-24, 25-19.

Meanwhile, Colchester came up short against Middlebury on Wednesday, falling 3-0. The Lakers haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-19, 25-16.

Missisquoi Valley will have to contain Payton Vilmont as she made an impact in Colchester's last game. She had four digs and two aces.

Colchester's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Missisquoi Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Missisquoi Valley suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Colchester in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
