Baseball Recap: Massac County Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Murphysboro, Massac County was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Carterville Lions by a score of 8-4. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.

Zach Maurer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Adan Mizell was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Max Elliott also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Massac County's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Carterville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Massac County will challenge rival Harrisburg at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Carterville is set to square off against their familiar foe Murphysboro at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
