Baseball Recap: Godwin Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Godwin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They put the hurt on the Hermitage Panthers with a sharp 14-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-5 on Monday.

Cal Travers looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Luke Smyers was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Boyd, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Godwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hermitage only posted an OBP of .167.

Godwin's victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Hermitage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Godwin will challenge Freeman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hermitage, they will host Henrico at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
