Softball Recap: Damascus Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Damascus owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Northwest Jaguars with a sharp 9-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 11 contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Aislinn Sell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Amaya Hammond and Katelynn Doyle did most of the damage at the plate: Hammond went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Doyle went 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Doyle has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Payton Wallace, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Damascus pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northwest, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

The future could be bright for both Damascus and Northwest: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Hornets will try to hand Northwood their fifth-straight defeat when the two meet at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Northwest will look to extend Churchill's three-game losing streak when they meet on Monday.
