Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Caleigh Mccoy and Kylea Weddington Lead Phelps to Victory

Phelps had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They secured a 53-47 W over the Morgan County Cougars. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Hornets were the better team in the second half.

Leading Phelps to victory were Kylea Weddington and Caleigh McCoy. Weddington dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards, while McCoy posted 20 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which McCoy has scored at least a third of Phelps' points.

Phelps' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. As for Morgan County, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Martin County the next time they take the court. Morgan County will head out to face Martin County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Phelps will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
