Softball Game Preview: Albany Falcons vs. Maple Hill Wildcats

The Albany Falcons will challenge the Maple Hill Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Albany has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Maple Hill will arrive with five straight victories.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Albany's offense. They came up short against Guilderland on Tuesday, falling 12-0.

Meanwhile, Maple Hill won against Voorheesville on Saturday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Wildcats beat Cairo-Durham by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-3.

Halle Feldman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Feldman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Maple Hill let Amalya LaPlante and Sydney Rogers run wild. LaPlante went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Rogers went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that LaPlante has snagged this season.

Maple Hill pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Albany, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
