Bishop O'Connell and DeMatha (ranked 34th and 20th in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile match on Tuesday. The Bishop O'Connell Knights took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the DeMatha Stags. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Shane Lincoln and Makel Minor certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Lincoln went 8 of 11 on his way to 17 points, while Minor went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Darius Bivins, who posted seven points along with six boards and five assists.

Ashton (Ace) Meeks was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points for DeMatha. Meeks' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Wallace, who scored five points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Bishop O'Connell's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-6. As for DeMatha, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-5.

Bishop O'Connell will welcome Paul VI at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for DeMatha, they will head out on the road to challenge Our Lady of Good Counsel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. DeMatha knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Our Lady of Good Counsel likes a good challenge.
