Baseball Recap: Saltillo Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Saltillo's offense. They fell just short of South Panola by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which Saltillo was not able to get on the board.

KORBIN SHEFFIELD was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Saltillo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LUKE REYNOLDS, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Another was EJAY ROGERS, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Saltillo's loss dropped their record down to 22-6. As for South Panola, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saltillo will challenge Greenville at 2:00 p.m. on the 25th. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for South Panola, they will face off against Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
