Basketball Game Preview: Therrell Panthers vs. Lovett Lions

Two dominant guards in Azil Hazzard and Riley Gallagher are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Having just played yesterday, the Therrell Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Lovett Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

Therrell is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Carver just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 53-51.

Therrell might have lost, but man, Hazzard was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 boards. Hazzard's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caliea Baisden, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lovett faced off against Therrell on Saturday. Lovett fell just short of Therrell by a score of 39-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Lions have suffered since November 14, 2023.

Therrell will need focus on slowing down Maddy Eford, one of several Lovett players who made an impact when they last played. She scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Gallagher, who had eight points.

Therrell's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Lovett, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.

Therrell skirted past Lovett 39-37 when the teams last played on Saturday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Therrell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
