Churchill is 1-9 against Johnson since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chargers will head out to square off against the Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Churchill has given up an average of 34.8 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Churchill came up short against Reagan and fell 35-25. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 570th, while the Rattlers are ranked 198th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kalobe Rond, who rushed for 108 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 62 receiving yards. Jayden Garcia was another key signal caller, throwing for 230 yards and one TD.
Meanwhile, Johnson put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past LEE, posting a 41-6 victory. The Jaguars' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Churchill better keep an eye on Elvis Estrada. He was instrumental in Johnson's win, throwing for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground.
Johnson's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Matthew Paris with two sacks. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.
Churchill's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Johnson, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
Churchill was taken down by Johnson 35-0 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Chargers, Lorenn 'Bubba' Johnson (who rushed for 165 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
