Football Recap: Woods Cross' Rushing Attack Does It Again

After losing to Alta the last time they met, Woods Cross decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Hawks on Friday. With the Wildcats ahead 21-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Woods Cross' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesse Simmons, who threw for 221 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Simmons' passing game has become a key predictor of the Wildcats' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Teiyon Halbasch helped Simmons out on the ground, picking up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Woods Cross was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Woods Cross didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Halbasch and Wyatt Hunter.

Alta lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Evan Morton, who picked up 203 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. His longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards. Tucker Brown was another key player, having thrown for 303 yards and two touchdowns.

Woods Cross' victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Alta, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
