Softball Recap: Wes-Del Has No Trouble Against Cowan

Wes-Del's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Cowan Blackhawks 14-8. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Bailee West made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. West was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keylie Byrd, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Marley Bertram, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Wes-Del kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cowan only managed nine hits.

Wes-Del's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Cowan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

When Wes-Del and Cowan next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Warriors will try to stop Shenandoah's five-game winning streak when they meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Cowan will take on Southern Wells and their three-game winning streak at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
