Recap: North Fort Myers Red Knights vs. Dunbar Tigers
The North Fort Myers Red Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 55-43 to Dunbar. North Fort Myers was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
North Fort Myers' loss came despite strong showings from Isaiah Newson and Chance Taylor. Newson scored 20 points along with three steals, while Taylor scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That was a full 46.5% of North Fort Myers' points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Khalid Bourne, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Dunbar got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was David Church out in front who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hezekiah Jones, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
North Fort Myers' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Dunbar, their victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Fort Myers will square off against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 67.11 points so far this season, Riverdale's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Red Knights better be ready for a challenge. Dunbar will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. South Fort Myers is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season.
