Football Recap: Kearney Bearcats vs. Bellevue West Thunderbirds

With a playoff game on the line, Kearney rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Bellevue West Thunderbirds as they made off with a 30-7 win. The Bearcats' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kearney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Griffin Novacek, who rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 47 yards and a touchdown. Kearney also got a significant boost from Samuel Nachtigal, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

The victory was the eighth in a row for Kearney, bringing their record for this year to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.3 points per game. As for Bellevue West, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Kearney will head out on the road to challenge Millard South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Millard South is on a six-game streak of home wins, Kearney a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Bellevue West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
