Softball Game Preview: Gahr Gladiators vs. Downey Vikings

Gahr is 8-2 against Downey since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Gladiators will host the Vikings at 3:15 p.m. Neither Gahr nor Downey posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Thursday, Gahr didn't have quite enough to beat La Mirada and fell 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Gladiators in their meetings with the Matadores: they've now lost seven in a row.

Bella Gonzalez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

At the plate, Gahr saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayleigh Allen, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Allen is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Downey's offense. They lost 7-0 to Warren on Thursday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

Giana Castillo-Flores spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

Gahr's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Downey, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Gahr hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Downey struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs.
