Basketball Game Preview: Middletown Blue Dragons vs. New Britain Golden Hurricanes

Middletown and New Britain are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Middletown Blue Dragons will look to defend their home court on Friday against the New Britain Golden Hurricanes at 5:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Middletown will head into Wednesday's matchup out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a 57-24 loss at the hands of Southington. While losing is never fun, the Blue Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Blue Knights are ranked seventh).

Despite the defeat, Middletown saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rielle Jackson posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cristina Santana-Julia, who earned six points.

Meanwhile, New Britain was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 41-37 to Newington. The contest marked the Golden Hurricanes' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

New Britain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Middletown, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home.

Middletown strolled past New Britain in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 72-53. Will Middletown repeat their success, or does New Britain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
