The Monroe Central Seminoles will head out to challenge the Hiland Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Monroe Central had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Malvern on Monday. The Seminoles put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 10-3 win. The Seminoles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 14-6).

Caleb Griffith made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Monroe Central is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 7-16 otherwise. Griffith was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Austin Bettinger looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Max Demchak was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Monroe Central: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-15 otherwise. Mason Landefeld was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Monroe Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hiland entered their tilt with Kenston on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Bombers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Monroe Central's record now sits at 10-16. As for Hiland, their record is now 22-1.
Monroe Central might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Hiland in their previous matchup back in May of 2016. Can the Seminoles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
