Volleyball Recap: Smithson Valley Rangers vs. Boerne-Champion Chargers
Smithson Valley lost against Boerne-Champion back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Rangers fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 3-2. While the Rangers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Chargers 25-21 in the first set.
Smithson Valley took Boerne-Champion into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 15-7.
Leighton Morgan paced Smithson Valley's offense, picking up 11 kills. Morgan got some help from Dani Mendez and her 24 assists. Brienn Brown controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Among those leading the charge was Hannah Perez, who had 23 digs and six assists. That's the most digs she has posted over her last 11 games. Brielle Boothe also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Smithson Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-9 record this season. As for Boerne-Champion, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season.
Smithson Valley and Boerne-Champion should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Rangers will take on Alamo Heights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (80 vs. 407). Meanwhile, Boerne-Champion (ranked 77th) will meet Madison (ranked 224th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
