Baseball Recap: Cottondale Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Cottondale had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Sneads Pirates on Thursday. The Hornets have beaten the Pirates the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pirates has come to flipping the script.

Wyatt Speers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Alex Bellamy was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Cottondale's record now sits at 15-11. As for Sneads, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-13 record.

As of now, neither Cottondale nor the Pirates have any future games scheduled.
