Baseball Recap: Mescalero Apache Comes Up Short

Mescalero Apache had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it six. They lost 17-2 to the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the SonBlazers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-3 last Saturday.

Mescalero Apache saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Yuzos, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games.

On Mesilla Valley Christian School's side, Matt Borde and Zach Beasley made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Borde struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Beasley pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Borde went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Beasley went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Weston Marr, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Davis Coyle, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mesilla Valley Christian School beat Mescalero Apache by a score of 18-2 later that day.
