South Walton is on an 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Jay is on a five-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The South Walton Seahawks will host the Jay Royals at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. South Walton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, South Walton was able to grind out a solid win over Mosley, taking the game 7-3. The victory continues a trend for the Seahawks in their matchups with the Dolphins: they've now won four in a row.
Cameron Tipton-Thomas was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Tipton-Thomas was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Frank Wells was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jackson Perkins, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
South Walton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mosley only posted an OBP of .345.
Meanwhile, Jay won against Cottondale on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Jay was the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over Navarre. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Landon Golden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Godwin, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Jax Lowery was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
South Walton's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Jay, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Everything went South Walton's way against Jay in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as South Walton made off with an 11-1 win. Will South Walton repeat their success, or does Jay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
