Softball Recap: Prairie Heights Gets the Win

With a playoff win on the line, Prairie Heights rose to the challenge on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Lakeland Lakers. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Lakers back in April, they had to take a 18-9 loss.

Emily McCrea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits.

On the hitting side, Prairie Heights' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kairi Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Febie Booher also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Prairie Heights and bumps their season record up to 9-17. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Lakeland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.

Prairie Heights will square off against Eastside at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
