Softball Game Preview: Shawnee Redskins vs. Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes

The Shawnee Redskins will take on the Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Shawnee has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Tuesday, Shawnee didn't have quite enough to beat Agape Christian and fell 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Redskins have lost by just one run.

Emma Young was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Zeigler-Royalton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Trico 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tornadoes have posted since May 10, 2024.

Addison Furlow made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Mayti House was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Emma Capogreco was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Shawnee now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Zeigler-Royalton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Shawnee came up short against Zeigler-Royalton when the teams last played back in March of 2016, falling 9-5. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
