Basketball Recap: Steeleville Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Johnston City, Steeleville was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Gibault Catholic Hawks 40-37. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 56-49 win the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Karmon Grohmann and Kamille Grohmann certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Karmon almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kamille went 6 for 14 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Karmon has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Steeleville pushed their record up to 6-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Gibault Catholic, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Steeleville will host Chester at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Steeleville is facing Chester at the right time seeing as Chester is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Gibault Catholic, they will welcome Althoff Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
