Softball Recap: Kewanee Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Kewanee ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sherrard Tigers, sneaking past 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Boilermakers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Kalleigh Gale tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Rylee Blades was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Remy Hicks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Kewanee's victory bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Sherrard, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-10.

Coming up, Kewanee will head out on the road to take on Rock Island at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sherrard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Moline United at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
