Basketball Recap: St. Stephens Comes Up Short

St. Stephens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Lincoln Knights. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Knights are ranked 43rd).

When it comes to explaining why St. Stephens lost, don't look at Kennedy Blevins. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc to rack up 29 points. That was a full 61.7% of St. Stephens' points, marking the 17th time in a row Blevins has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Barkley, who put up two points and eight rebounds.

North Lincoln found their leader in sophomore Ally Smith, who went 8-for-18 on her way to 24 points in addition to six boards and four blocks. The matchup was Smith's 18th in a row with at least 15 points. Hailey Hagler was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

St. Stephens' defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for North Lincoln, the win (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 19-1.

St. Stephens has already played their next contest, a 65-36 loss against East Lincoln on the 7th. As for North Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-36 victory against Foard on the 7th.
