Basketball Recap: Alleghany Takes a Loss

Alleghany was the 62-54 winner over James River when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Alleghany Cougars took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James River Knights.

When it comes to explaining why Alleghany lost on Friday, don't look at Bryce Leitch. Despite the final result, she went 6-for-13 to rack up 17 points. The matchup was Leitch's 12th in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Ja'Kara Heighter, who posted nine points.

Alleghany's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-6. As for James River, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars face off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for James River, they will face off against Floyd County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Floyd County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something James River surely won't give up without a fight.
