Cummings extends home losing streak to three

Recap: Cummings Cavaliers vs. Williams Bulldogs

This season hasn't been kind to the Cummings Cavaliers, who are still winless after their seventh game. They were beaten by Williams 57-23 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Cummings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 568th, while Williams is ranked 173rd).

Williams was led to victory by Scout Winter and Regan Averett. Winter scored nine points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Averett scored 16 points along with six blocks. The matchup was Averett's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Taylor, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.

Cummings bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Williams, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cummings will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chatham Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Williams will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southern Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
