Basketball Recap: Edison Comes Up Short

Edison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Sam Houston Hurricanes and fell 52-11. While losing is never fun, the Golden Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1260th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 167th).

Edison got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Angie Corona and Malajah Gray, who each put up four points.

Sam Houston's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bre'Yanna Murray, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Jakiyah Caldwell, who had 13 points.

Edison's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Sam Houston, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Edison will take on Fox Tech in a holiday battle at at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sam Houston and Highlands will compete for holiday cheer at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sam Houston is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
