Basketball Recap: Hawkins Extends Winning Streak to 11

Hawkins had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the McLeod Longhorns 59-32. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 24 points or more this season.

Leading Hawkins to victory were Eli Smith and Brayden Givens. Smith went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points along with seven steals and six assists, while Givens posted 14 points and three steals. Those seven steals gave Smith a new career-high. Derek Hollman was another key player, going 5 for 6 on his way to 11 points.

Hawkins is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. As for McLeod, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-18 record.

Hawkins will venture away from home to challenge Union Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Grove is on a three-game streak of home wins, Hawkins a 15-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for McLeod, they will welcome Harleton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
