Baseball Preview: Middleburg Broncos vs. Clay Blue Devils

Middleburg is 0-6 against Clay since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Middleburg Broncos are on the road again to play the Clay Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Middleburg sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Paxon School For Advanced Studies.

Brayden Daigle looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Middleburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylar Gray, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Nathan Austin, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI.

Keystone Heights typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Clay proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Indians. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Clay.

Rylan McMahan looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Cole Carnell was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Lowrance, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Middleburg's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14. As for Clay, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Middleburg couldn't quite finish off Clay in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 7-5.
