Football Recap: Clairemont Chieftains vs. Coronado Islanders
Clairemont had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it seven. They were dealt a 38-8 loss at the hands of the Coronado Islanders. The Chieftains were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.
Despite the loss, Clairemont still got an impressive performance from Tyler Allen, who rushed for 135 yards and one score on only 14 carries.
As for Coronado, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 15 points in those games.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coronado to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jake Nelson, who rushed for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. Chase Jenkins was another key player, gaining 102 total yards.
