Preview: Seventy-First Falcons vs. South View Tigers
After eight games on the road, Seventy-First is heading back home. They will take on the South View Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Seventy-First has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Friday, Seventy-First was able to grind out a solid win over Lumberton, taking the game 63-54.
Seventy-First got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alani-Skye Wilkerson out in front who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Wilkerson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariyah Massey, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, South View earned a 57-49 win over Jack Britt on Tuesday. With that victory, South View brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.
South View's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zakiera Gaillard, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gaillard pulled down eight or more rebounds. Jayla Blue was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 21 rebounds and three blocks.
Seventy-First's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for South View, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Seventy-First came up short against South View in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 60-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of South View's Jordynn Parnell, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
