Softball Recap: Canton Wins Going Away Against Normal West

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Canton brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on the Normal West Wildcats with a sharp 10-1 win on Saturday. Considering the Little Giants have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Tori Birch made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Canton got a massive performance out of Kambell McDermet, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double. That's the most runs McDermet has posted since back in March. Makaylynne Correa was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Canton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 12-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory snapped Canton's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 17-8 record. As for Normal West, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canton will host Dunlap at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Normal West, they will be playing at home against Champaign Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Maroons will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
