The Golden Demons will square off against the Brighton Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Golden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Golden's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Glenelg Country. The high-scoring effort was just what the Demons needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Austin Maleki looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Luca Casali was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Sawyer Brinkman also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Golden hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Brighton is still undefeated this season after their game against Shady Side Academy on Wednesday, but Shady Side Academy came as close as anyone has to beating them. Brighton came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Shady Side Academy.
Austin Sickler and Jack Pfaff did most of the damage at the plate: Sickler went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Pfaff scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Sickler has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Austin Waltemath, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Golden's record is now 3-1. As for Brighton, their record now sits at 4-0.
Brighton's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Golden has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brighton, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Golden keep running through batters, or will Brighton buck the trend?
Golden was able to grind out a solid win over Brighton in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 4-1. Will Golden repeat their success, or does Brighton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
