Basketball Game Preview: Lucy Beckham Bengals vs. Berkeley Stags

The Lucy Beckham Bengals are taking a road trip to challenge the Berkeley Stags at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lucy Beckham took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Monday. They strolled past Cane Bay with points to spare, taking the game 46-29. Given the Bengals' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Cobras are ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lucy Beckham found their leader in sophomore Vivian Watts, who posted 12 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Watts a new career-high in steals. Logan Collins was another key player, putting up four points and six steals.

Meanwhile, Berkeley waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Cobras, posting a 51-19 win. The Stags have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 25 points or more this season.

Berkeley pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Lucy Beckham, they have also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season.

Lucy Beckham suffered a grim 48-25 defeat to Berkeley when the teams last played back in December of 2023. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Lucy Beckham was down 28-6.
