Maize South faced Emporia in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Mavericks put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 5-2 win. Considering Maize South have won five matchups by more than two goals this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory was the third in a row for Maize South, bringing their record up to 5-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those three matches. As for Emporia, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.
